Summer

SUMMER

It is hot and dry in Northland, but the weather is very unpredictable and some days it’s like four seasons in one day particularly December. It’s often windy which sucks the moisture out of the ground so plenty of watering is required for both lawns and gardens, consider adding irrigation if you have a good water supply.

MULCH, MULCH & MULCH AGAIN – Good Mulch is so important to keep gardens alive through January and February. Mulch protects the roots from drying out and stopping the roots growing towards the surface in search of moisture.  Choose from a huge range available at all our yards such as Bark Mulch, Eco Mulch, Ground Hugger Bark, Black Wood Mulch, Landscape Bark, Pine Chip and Bark Peel.

VEGETABLE GARDENS - Build up or create new beds using Greenfingers Compost or Garden Mix, raised timber planting boxes are available from Greenfingers in a range of sizes. It’s a great time to plant tomatoes early late spring or summer, and enjoy the softer herbs such as Basil and Coriander that don’t like the cold, with warmer weather you can enjoy growing corn and melon and summer salad greens to enjoy with BBQ’s.

XMAS – With the silly season fast approaching, get your gardens looking fab and ready for summer entertaining. We have a huge range of landscaping supplies including feature rocks, riverstones for gardens and pathways. Schist stepping stones look great surrounded by river stone and Hokey Pokey pebbles make attractive paths.

EDGING – We have a great range of wooden railway sleepers in hardwood or pine and we also stock Ponga Logs which can be easily chainsawed to achieve desired lengths, these look magic as garden edging and can be easily laid by even the novice gardener.”
